Pahalgam

Pahalgam, a world famous hill station is 45 Kms. from the District Head Quarter at Anantnag and 96 from summer capital Srinagar  located on the banks of river Lidder at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level. Once a great tourist puller and favourite place for shooting of Bollywood films is perhaps the best health resort in the country. Pahalgam also serves as base camp for the famous Amarnath Ji Yatra. The Pahalgam Valley presents glamorous look due to its pine forests, snow clad mountains, healthy climate and vast meadows and pastures. Pahalgam skirts Lidder river and torrential flow of water in Lidder river enriches the awesome beauty of the Valley.


Around Pahalgam are many places of interest, and because the resort is set between fairly steep hills, it is worth hiring a pony rather than walking. The most beautiful of these is the huge, undulating meadow of Baisaran, surrounded by thickly wooded forests of pine.

Places to visit in Pahalgam

1. Aru Valley

Aru Valley is one of tourist's favorite in the area, with lush green grasslands and thick forests, interspersed with modest and playful streams of water and a backdrop of huge silver mountains.

Aru is a great place for family outings because it has beautiful resorts and activities for all kinds of people. The locals truly make you feel at home with innumerable cups of Kaah'wa and by taking you sight seeing.

2. Betab Valley

Betab Valley is a very popular touristic destination. Betaab Valley is also a favorite campsite of travelers as it also serves as a base camp for trekking and further exploration of the mountains.[3] The valley is a walk-able distance from Pahalgam. The crystal clear & chilly water of the stream bubbling down from the snowy hills is a delight; locals here drink this water too. Baisaran and Tulian Lake are few nearby attractions that can be visited.

3.Chandanwari

Travelling on the flat terrain from Pahalgam for about 16 km, one can reach the famous Amarnath Yatra base point namely Chandanwari or Chandanwadi. The route which links the Pahalgam and Chandanwari entices you with scenic beauty. On one side of the road you could see Lidder River gushing and on other side snowcapped mountain stands calmly. Adventurous people can opt for hiking to reach Chandanwari. Also snow sledging is very famous in Chandanwari. Sheshnag Lake mesmerizes you with its crystal clear water. Kids can have fun by indulging in snow fights. En route the Chandanwari there is an ideal picnic spot named “Hajan”. There are enormous stalls and Dhabas which provide steaming tea and delicious food.
